Mission Statement  

The Dual Language & Arts Magnet Middle School provides a comprehensive student-centered middle school program within an arts enriched setting of instruction dedicated to building a student body that is bilingual, bi-literate, and multicultural.

The school’s core curriculum empowers students to enhance their understanding of academic content, themselves, and the world by embracing the arts and their potential to impact communication, culture, and creativity.

The Dual Language & Arts Magnet Middle School serves students entering 6, 7, and 8th grade.

At the Dual Language & Arts Magnet Middle School, students develop skill level in both Spanish and English within a multicultural setting, and experience music, art and theater within both the classroom and the greater local arts community.

The Dual Language & Arts Magnet Middle School provides a program of instruction dedicated to establishing a student body that is bilingual, biliterate, multicultural and arts-enriched. This is achieved by providing a comprehensive core curriculum that empowers students to enhance their understanding of academic content, of themselves, and of the world by embracing the arts and their potential to impact communication, culture, and creativity. In addition to the core curriculum, arts enrichment and exposure occur via instructional programs, visiting artists, and field excursions, while additional immersion in Spanish is provided through direct daily classroom instruction and Spanish language integration in core academic areas.

Students who attend Dual Language & Arts Magnet Middle School:

  • Learn Spanish through science, the arts, literacy, and math;
  • Choose elective classes in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math, and Languages;
  • Experience a small school where everyone knows your name;
  • Achieve excellence through arts enriched instruction;
  • Create innovative content with ipads for all students;

Dual Language & Arts Magnet Middle School opened in 2007, through a joint initiative between the New London and Waterford school boards to serve students in southeastern Connecticut. The Dual Language & Arts Magnet Middle School became a part of LEARN in 2009 with a total school population of 65 students from six area communities at that time.

Currently there are 150 middle school students representing twelve area towns: New London, Waterford, East Lyme, Groton, Ledyard, Stonington, North Stonington, Montville, Norwich, Franklin, Old Lyme, and Hartford. The school recently received a significant federal grant to support the expansion of its theme.
